Insurance coverage
As a Registered Social Worker in both Alberta and Ontario, my services fall under “Social Worker” coverage in most extended health plans, insurers like Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, and Blue Cross commonly include RSW services.
One honest caveat: every employer builds their own plan, and some cover Registered Psychotherapists, some Registered Social Workers, and some both. The two-minute call to your insurer asking “does my plan cover Registered Social Worker services?” is worth making before we start. You'll receive a receipt after each session to submit for reimbursement.
Payment
Credit card, processed securely through Jane. Payment is due at the time of session, and receipts are issued right away for insurance submission.
Cancellations
Life happens, and I ask for 24 hours' notice when it does. Missed or late-cancelled sessions are charged the session fee, with case-by-case exceptions for the genuinely unforeseeable.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly. A small number of insurance plans require a physician's referral for reimbursement, your insurer can tell you if yours is one of them.
Same rate, both provinces
Alberta and Ontario clients pay the same rate for the same senior clinician, registered locally in each province (ACSW in Alberta, OCSWSSW in Ontario).
